A man accused of driving a sportscar through the Osceola Street Cafe in October before leaving the scene has been arrested and charged.

Authorities in Stuart, Florida arrested 61-year-old Benny David Otero after an investigation into the October 28th crash.

According to the report, police were called to the establishment on Southwest Osceola Street around 11:13 p.m.

The bartender told authorities that she served Otero one drink before he left but that he seemed extremely intoxicated before she gave him the drink. She told officials that she and several others attempted to convince Otero to call an Uber and even tried to take his keys, however, Otero refused and told those surrounding him not to touch him and that he had a gun. He then went on to get into his yellow Chevrolet Corvette and drove straight through the nearby outdoor seating area.

That same night, authorities were able to locate Otero’s vehicle at his home and found that the vehicle not only had frontend damage to it, but that it was warm. When they knocked on the door, Otero’s son answered and told authorities they he had not seen his dad in hours and that he was unsure why the car was in the driveway or what happened to it. Otero’s son also refused to allow them inside of the house.

Authorities were then forced to launch and full investigation to get a warrant for Otero’s arrest.

Otero is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. He has since been released on a $5,000 bond.

The owner of the establishment says that Otero they were left with more than $5,000 worth of damage.
