A man who was visiting Florida for a friend’s wedding is counting his blessings after he accidently spent the night at the wrong home.
The man identified as Paul Drecksler told reporters that he arrived at what be believed was the Airbnb that he rented at about 2:00 a.m.
He says he put the address of the Airbnb into Google maps and headed to the home.
The next morning, however, he was woken up by a homeowner who was confused about why there was a stranger in their home:
“The next morning, I get woken up by a knock on the door. I was surprised the guy even knocked on his own door. He goes, ‘Hey, can I help you? This is my house,’ and I’m like, ‘Um, no, this is an Airbnb that I rented.’ He goes, ‘No, this is my house,'” said Drecksler. “I could’ve been woken up to an angry homeowner. Really bad things could’ve happened.”
Drecksler said that even though it was late and he was tired, when he entered the room, he did not find any immediate indication that he was at the wrong home.
“In the bedroom, the bed was made and ready to go, and there were two clean folded towels waiting for me,” said Drecksler.
It wasn’t until later that Drecksler says all of the signs that he was at the wrong home were there.
“In hindsight, now, I look back, all the clues were there. This is not the right Airbnb, but at 2 o’clock, your brain is like, this is it. This is the one,” said Drecksler.
The homeowner was kind enough to point Drecksler in the correct direction, which was the home right next door.
Drecksler says that in the future he will double, and even triple check the address the next time he stays at an Airbnb.
