A 29-year-old woman is dead after her ex-husband traveled to her apartment in Chicago to kill her.
Sania Khan’s body was found by police on Monday around 4:30 p.m. a day after they were asked to perform a welfare check on her.
When authorities arrived, they heard a gunshot and then a man crying out.
Once authorities went inside the apartment, they found Sania dead by the door with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
They then found Khan’s ex-husband, 36-year-old Raheel Ahmad suffering from a head injury in the bathroom.
Authorities also said he had a gun in his hand.
He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.
While searching the apartment, investigators discovered a suicide note
Khan and Ahmad divorced in May. Khan who was a professional photographer wrote about the struggles of divorce on her Tiktoc:
“Going through a divorce as a South Asian Woman feels like you failed at life sometimes,” she wrote. “The way the community labels you, the lack of emotional support you receive, and the pressure to stay with someone because ‘what will people say’ is isolating. It makes it harder for women to leave a marriage that they shouldn’t have been in, to begin with.”
