A 76-year-old man is facing several charges after an investigation found that he was the person responsible for tossing used coffee cups into the yard of a former coworker for the last three years.
Cheryl Patton of Lake View, New York told reporters she and her husband often found the trash in their yard but could not find figure out who was leaving it there.
The couple eventually decided to set up a camera outside of their home to catch the person in the act, however, the couple did not have any luck.
It wasn’t until a neighbor who was aware of the situation saw a driver in a minivan drive through the area and throw a coffee cup into the Patton’s yard.
The neighbor decided to follow the vehicle and get the license plate number, while the Patton’s contacted the police.
Authorities where able to pull over the vehicle and identified the suspect as Larry Pope.
Patton told reports that she and Pope used to work together but had several disagreements over union issues.
“I found it very hard to believe that someone I knew would do something like that, especially at his age,” Patton told The News.
Pope has since been charged with harassment and was also ticketed for throwing refuse onto a roadway.
The Patton’s say the littering has stopped since Pope was pulled over.
