North Miami Beach, FL– A man is now in custody after he stole a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue truck and led authorities on a cross-county vehicle case.
Authorities say the suspect, now identified as 31-year-old Aljenard Lekambrick, stole the fire truck being used for training exercises from the area of Northeast 166th Street and Seventh Avenue around 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
While Lekambrick attempted to flee the area, he then crashed into a marked, unoccupied Opa-Locka Police cruiser.
Miami-Dade police officers pursued the suspect as he got on the northbound lanes of I-95. Eventually, the suspect exited at West Atlantic Boulevard and made his way to the Turnpike.
Once the truck entered Broward County, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office took over the chase. Florida Highway Patrol troopers also responded.
Lekambrick was eventually stopped on the turnpike just north of Boynton Beach Boulevard.
He is charged with grand theft of emergency medical equipment and is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
