MARATHON, FL– A 55-year-old man has been arrested after he stabbed another man in the neck because the victim refused to give him $5.
The incident occurred on Monday at the bus station located at 5585 Overseas Highway.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect, now identified as Jamaal Coleman, walked up to him and asked him for money. When the victim declined, Coleman and the victim got into an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.
Coleman then pulled out a knife and “stabbed or slashed” the victim in the neck.
The victim was taken to Fishermen’s Community Hospital to be treated.
Coleman has been arrested and is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Authorities say more charges against Coleman may be pending.
