BOYNTON BEACH, FL– Authorities in Boynton Beach are reporting that a man is in critical condition after he shot himself in the chin during a traffic stop.
The incident occurred in the eastbound lanes of W. Woolbright Road after midnight on Feb. 27.
Officials conducted a traffic stop on 33-year-old Muhannad Ibrahim after being informed that he had an active warrant for felony domestic battery by strangulation.
Ibrahim resisted commands. Officers then moved to remove him from his vehicle.
While Ibrahim was being removed from the vehicle, he pulled a gun from his waistband, raised the gun to his chin, and fired one round.
Ibrahim was taken to an area hospital where he is in critical condition.
Authorities say he is now facing charges for carrying a concealed firearm, resisting arrest without violence, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
