Man sets house on fire after not being able to find his backpack

A 46-year-old man is now behind bars after he allegedly set a house on fire because he was frustrated about not being able to find his backpack.

The incident occurred at a residence near the intersection of Northwest 102nd Street and Northwest 35th Avenue in Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade firefighters say they responded to the home Saturday afternoon to put out the flames.

Investigators then found surveillance video showing the suspect Richard Garcia dousing the home in fuel before it was set on fire.

When authorities caught up with Garcia, he told them that he was so angry about not being able to find is backpack that he decided to set on of the efficiencies at the house on fire.

No one was home at the time.

Garcia has been arrested and is facing first-degree arson and burglary of an unoccupied structure charges.

He is being held on without bond over a warrant related to a third-degree grand theft auto charge case.
