After a shocking case of animal abuse police in Davie have arrested the man they say shot and killed a veteran’s service dog at a veterinary clinic last Friday.

Police say 21 year old Chayse Billie approached the outdoor kennel area of the Aycock Veterinarian Clinic in the 5400 block of Sterling Road at around 6:45 that morning and appeared to be taking pictures of the dog, named Maltida, with his phone.

He then pulled out a gun, shot the dog several times, and then took more photos.

Daniel Perez, a Miami-Dade EMT and former combat soldier who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was Maltida’s owner and would board her at the clinic while he was at work.

He was devastated by the senseless killing and expressed gratitude to the Davie and Seminole Police Departments for apprehending the suspect.

Matilda was Daniel’s therapy animal and he had owned her for almost seven years. He says he has no relationship to her suspected killer.

Chayse Billie was booked into the Broward County Main Jail Tuesday night on aggravated animal cruelty charges and is being held on $2500 bond.

The charge carries a $2500 fine and a possible jail sentence of as long as five years.
