(FAIRBANKS, Arkansas)– A 1-year-old girl was killed by her mother’s boyfriend for distracting him from playing his video games.

According to the Fairbanks Police Department, the investigation into the baby’s death began the morning of November 4, when the Fairbanks Emergency Communications Center received a call about a deceased child at a residence in the 1600-block of Central Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 1-year-old dead from her injuries.

The coroner’s report said the girl had multiple injuries across her body “consistent with being assaulted.”

The child’s mother told investigators she went to wake her daughter up that morning and found that she was deceased.

31-year-old Zackry Johnson, the mother’s boyfriend, was tasked with watching her children while she was at work, according to the police.

Investigators then took Johnson in for an interview, during which he allegedly claimed the one-year-old had been “play fighting” with her six-year-old sister earlier the night before.

Johnson attempted to blame the child’s older sibling for the injuries and death, however, he later confessed to the murder.

According to police, Johnson said he wanted to “get her to take a nap so that he could play video games,”

The FPD arrested Johnson on a charge of second-degree murder.
