ROME, GA– Two people are dead following a murder-suicide in the drive-thru of a Chick-fil-A.
The incident occurred at the restaurant on Shorter Avenue Wednesday morning.
The Rome Police Department says they received a call about an accident at the establishment around 7:00 a.m., however, as they were traveling to the location, they learned that they were responding to a shooting.
Investigators say the victim, 39-year-old Cassie Lashae Davis was in the drive-thru at the Chick-fil-A when 56-year-old Anthony Wayne Green shot her three times with a revolver. After being shot, Davis pressed on the gas, which made her car speed forward into a power-box before it traveled down a nearby hill.
Green then turned the gun on himself.
Authorities say Davis and Green were involved in a domestic relationship and neither had any connection to the restaurant.
The situation is still under investigation.
The general manager of the restaurant released a statement they are mourning with the community:
“Rome Community, a horrific incident occurred outside our restaurant this morning. We are currently cooperating with the police who are investigating. No other guests or team members were hurt but we mourn with the community. We have closed the restaurant for the day to repair and care for team members. Thank you for your patience during this time; we plan to reopen tomorrow.”
The business re-opened on Thursday.
