MIAMI, FL– The Miami Police Department has launched an investigation after a man allegedly jumped over a sea wall and drowned after a night out.
The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. Thursday near 1155 Brickell Bay Drive.
City of Miami Fire Rescue units responded to the scene to find one man clinging to another person in the water.
A friend of the deceased told authorities that they had been out partying and were kidding around with each other. At one point, they began chasing each other and that’s when the victim decided to jump into the water.
“One decided that he was going to jump into the water and maybe either he hurt himself or he didn’t know how to swim and that’s the male that was pronounced deceased once he got to the hospital,” said an officer.
The other friend was treated at the scene and released.
The victim’s identity has not been released. Authorities say they are in the process of notifying the next of Kin.
