
(PORTLAND, OR)– A 38-year-old man has died after he was hit by a vehicle while trying to get his dog out of traffic.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 13 on Interstate 5.
Oregon State Police say that the victim, Michael Ernest Summers, was driving along the interstate when he struck a barrier around 1:00 a.m. and the dog escaped.
Summers then began chasing the dog on the roadway when Summers was struck by a vehicle driven by an 83-year-old Salem woman.
Authorities say Summers died at the scene.
The 83-year-old woman remained at the scene and is working with investigators.
