A 53-year-old man has been charged with murder after investigators found his girlfriend’s body stuffed inside of a refrigerator.

The body of 40-year-old Sherbert “Strawberry” Maddox was located by police after they were led to an apartment at 43 Parkis Ave. in Providence on Tuesday.

While authorities would not say what led them to the apartment, they did report that they found the suspect Nathan Cooper inside of the apartment when they arrived.

During a search of the apartment, authorities found Maddox’s body wrapped in layers of plastic wrap, towels and blankets in a refrigerator.

Investigators say that Maddox had been shot and that they believe she may have died on Sunday.

Cooper appeared in court on Wednesday where he was charged with was charged with domestic murder; possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm without a license.
