PUNO, Peru– Authorities in Peru are reporting that the mummified remains of a human were found in a man’s bag after coming upon three men out drinking near Lake Titicaca and the Bolivian.
According to the report, one of the men had the body in a red food delivery backpack.
When asked about the remains, the owner of the bag told them that he kept the mummy in his parent’s house but took it out to show it to his neighborhood friends.
It is unclear how the man got the mummified body.
Peru’s Culture Ministry has “verified the authenticity of the pre-Hispanic cultural asset, with approximately a relative chronology of 600 and 800 years old.”
The man was said to have been just five feet tall and was more than 45 years old at the time of his death.
The Ministry has since taken possession of the body “to protect and preserve the heritage” of the country.
