SANIBEL, FL– A man was rushed to an area hospital after he was bitten by an alligator while washing his hands in a pond.
The incident was reported Thursday morning in the 2400 block of Periwinkle Way.
The victim told the Sanibel Police Department that while his hands were in the pond, an alligator attacked him and grabbed his right arm.
He was able to free himself and contacted them.
First responders treated the man at the scene before transferring him to an area hospital.
According to the report, the victim suffered a serious injury to his right forearm.
Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife worked with a state trapper to capture the alligator.
Authorities say it will be euthanized.
