A 58-year-old man has been taken into custody for the DUI death of a passenger in his vehicle earlier this year.
David Humphreys, of Wilton Manors, was arrested on Tuesday in Pompano Beach while at the North Broward Bureau.
Authorities say Humphreys was driving his 2018 McLaren sports car on Feb. 6th when he lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Northeast 13th Street and Third Avenue around 1:10 a.m.
The vehicle split in half after striking a barricade and a tree. Authorities also said the crash caused an explosion.
Both Humphreys and his passenger 23-year-old Anesty Ruiz were taken to an area hospital where Ruiz was pronounced dead.
An investigation found that Humphreys’ blood-alcohol level was not only three times the legal limit, but that he was driving at 65mphs in an area zoned for 35 mph.
He is facing two counts of DUI manslaughter, one count of vehicular homicide, three counts of DUI with property damage, and three counts of reckless driving.
