Palm Beach County deputies arrested a 20 year old man Monday in connection with the death of an 8 year old girl who was gunned down in a drive-by outside of her home in Belle Glade.

PBSO says Andrew James Thomas was taken into custody in Coral Springs after witnesses identified him as the gunman who killed 8 year old Ronziyah Atkins in the 500 block of SE 1st Street last Friday.

Friends and relatives of the deceased girl held a vigil for her Saturday night.

Thomas is currently in the Broward County Jail and is charged with both first degree murder and attempted first degree murder.

Ronziyah had been playing outside her house when the shooting occurred and she was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

She died later that night.

The motive for the shooting, or who the intended target was, is not clear.

Thomas will be transferred to Palm Beach County to be prosecuted.
