JOHNS ISLAND, S.C.– Authorities have arrested a 25-year-old man after he accidentally shot one of his friends.
Jeremy Herwig was taken into custody on Tuesday for the shooting death of the 23-year-old Ezekiel Denue.
Officials say, Herwig and the victim were in his room drinking and playing video games when Herwig decided to grab the gun and show it off.
At one point, Herwig reportedly unloaded the weapon and then placed it on his lap.
While the gun was on his lap, it reportedly went off, striking his friend.
Herwig began applying pressure to the wound and called the police.
When authorities arrived, they began treating the victim, however, he later died.
Herwig told investigators that he thought the gun was unloaded when it went off.
Authorities found that the revolver was fully loaded with one empty shell casing and after an investigation, determined the victim was negligently shot.
Herwig has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. His bond was set at $50,000.
