A nine-time convicted felon is accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s 1-year-old son according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Department.
36-year-old Jeffrey Simmons of Fort Lauderdale was arrested Wednesday in connection with Sunday evening’s shooting in Broward County.
Police say Simmons followed his ex-girlfriend form a KFC restaurant on Sunrise Boulevard before shooting at her car. The woman attempted to get away, but Simmons followed the car into a parking lot near Marshalls on Broward Boulevard, where he fired two more shots, one which hit her 1-year-old son.
BSO spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said the young victim’s surgery was successful, but it’s not known what physical limitations he has suffered.
Simmons faces several charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and shooting into a dwelling or vehicle.
He was being held without bond at the main Broward County jail.
