A 20-year-old Florida man has been convicted of setting a store on fire during unrest in Tampa.

Terrance Lee Hester Jr. was convicted on Tuesday in a Tampa court after surrendering to authorities in New York last July.

Authorities say Hester was caught on camera throwing a flaming piece of cloth through a broken window of a Champs Sports store during a protest over the death of George Floyd last year.

The damage to the store and other businesses in the area was said to be an estimated at $1.25 million.

Hester has been convicted of damaging or destroying by fire a building used in interstate commerce. He now faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years and up to 20 years in prison.

A sentencing date was not immediately available.
