(INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL)– A 23-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend and his three-year-old daughter with a butcher knife.
The incident occurred Oct. 30 in the Florida Ridge area.
After being threatened at knife point, the victims managed to escape the home and ran to a nearby 7-11 store for help.
When authorities arrived to the scene, the suspect Edgerrin Billie, refused to come out of the home.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s SWAT and the Crisis Negotiations Team were then called to the scene.
After a long standoff, authorities were able to get Billie to come out of the home.
“With no regard for anyone’s life but his own, Billie threatened the life of his family and neighbors while he barricaded himself in his home with a weapon,” said Sheriff Eric Flowers from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. “This could have ended with tragedy, but thanks to the brave response of our deputies and detectives, this incident ended with a violent individual in custody.”
Billie has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest without violence.
