
A suspect who was arrested for shooting at both park rangers and police officers back in March has reportedly died while in custody.
Authorities announced an internal investigation into the death of 33-year-old Drew C. Sikes at the Federal Detention Center in Miami.
Sikes was arrested on March 28th after opening fire on Park Rangers at Everglades National Park while they responded to a domestic violence investigation.
After an hours long stand off, authorities were eventually able to bring Sikes into custody.
According to the report, Sikes’ death may have been the result of a violent clash between him and prison guards.
His death is considered “suspicious” and is under investigation by the Bureau of Prisons, Department of Justice Office of Inspector General according to the Herald.
A cause of death was not listed at this time.
