Police in Miami are reporting that a man and his grandson reeled in 2 sniper rifles while they were magnet fishing in a canal.

The grand father, Duane Smith, told police that he was inspired to try magnet fishing after watching a YouTube video on it.

He then took his grandson to a canal and dropped a 5 pound magnet into the water.

Smith says the magnet went straight to the guns.

Authorities reported the pair pulled two .50-caliber Barrett sniper rifles from the canal.

Both guns reportedly had their serial numbers filed off.

Detectives are now trying to figure out whether or not the guns were used in a crime.
