Machine recount ordered for Democratic Special Primary Election for U.S. House of Representatives, District 20

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL – A recount has been ordered for the Democratic Special Primary Election for Alcee Hastings’ vacated Congressional seat in District 20 which includes parts of Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

The Palm Beach County canvassing board will conduct the machine recount today.

The unofficial returns reported by Palm Beach and Broward county elections officials showed Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness ahead of health care company CEO Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick by 12 votes, but now he’s behind by two votes.

Florida Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee has ordered a recount in the Democratic Special Primary Election for U.S. House of Representatives, District 20.

The Palm Beach County Canvassing Board will conduct a logic and accuracy test, followed by a machine recount, and a manual recount, if necessary, at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Supervisor of Elections Voting Equipment Center, located at 7835 Central Industrial Drive, Riviera Beach, FL 33404.

The logic and accuracy test and recount(s) are open to the public.

WHAT: Logic & Accuracy Test, immediately followed by a Machine Recount for the Democratic Special Primary Election.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021.

WHERE: PBCSOE Voting Equipment Center, located at 7835 Central Industrial Drive, Riviera Beach, FL 33404.

The 1st set of unofficial returns reported to the Division of Elections for the Special Primary Election for U.S. House of Representatives, District 20, determined the top two races as having a margin of 0.5% or less.

As per s. 102.141(7), F.S., Florida’s Secretary of State is responsible for ordering recounts in federal, state, and multicounty races when the unofficial returns reflect that a candidate for any office was defeated or eliminated by one-half of a percent or less of the votes cast for such office.

If the results of the machine recount reflect that a candidate was defeated or eliminated by one-quarter of a percent or less of the votes cast for such office, a manual recount of overvotes and undervotes will be ordered and completed following the order.
