Authorities in Boca Raton are reporting that a 36-year-old woman was killed Monday during an officer-involved shooting.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the 4400 block of Hillsboro Boulevard.

According to the Coconut Creek Police Department, an officer noticed a woman and a male passenger driving a white Mercedes-Benz at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop.

After running the vehicle’s plates, the officer discovered that the vehicle had been registered as stolen out of Parkland and called for backup.

Once backup arrived to the scene, the driver Brittni Muldrew, reversed the car in the direction of the officers and was immediately fired on by two of the officers.

Muldrew was struck by gun fire while her passenger 49-year-old Levon Lopez was uninjured.

Authorities performed life-saving measures on Muldrew at the scene, however, she still died.

Two officers were taken to an area hospital but were later released. A k-9 officer who was also injured during the incident was taken to an animal hospital where it remains receiving treatment.

Lopez has since been taken into police custody where he his facing murder and grand theft auto charges.

The two officers who discharged their weapons have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
