Authorities in Pompano Beach are reporting that they saved a baby from a car that had been driven into a canal, after the driver was shot.

The incident occurred on Wednesday around 2:30 a.m. according to the Broward Sheriff’s office.

A witness contacted police to let them know that a car had gone into the water.

Authorities were able to pull a woman from the car and a baby girl from a car seat.

The woman who authorities say had been shot, died shortly after getting to the hospital.

The child was unharmed.

Authorities have not released the names of the woman or the baby, however, they did report that the woman was not the child’s mother.

Officials are still investigating the incident.
