Local PBA Chief says Police Unions will Fight Defunding

President Trump is speaking out against some proposals to reduce or defund police departments saying it will never happen.

But, defunding the police is a rallying cry for protesters and some Democrats including Representative Ilhan Omar who represents Minneapolis in Congress.

Calls to defund police departments are growing here in South Florida including in Broward County as well.
Protesters in Fort Lauderdale yesterday rallied at Holiday Park and marched into Wilton Manors.
An organizer says police violence has not stopped despite more de-escalation training, so she’s hoping city officials will cut ten million dollars from the police budget. She says she wants that money redirected into social programs that fight discrimination.

John Kazanjian, President of the Palm Beach County PBA spoke with Jen and Bill this morning on the South Florida Morning show about the prospect of defunding the police. He said it would be “very dangerous” and the police unions will fight it.
