Police in Fort Lauderdale are reporting that a suspect accidently shot himself in the foot while trying to flee during a traffic stop.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue.
Authorities say an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and that’s when one of its occupants jumped out and ran off.
The officers then began to chase the man and at some point during the chase, the man shot himself in the foot.
One of the officer’s applied a tourniquet to the wound while they waited for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews arrive.
The man was transported to Broward Health Medical Center.
No officers were injured during the incident.
It is unclear why the man ran away from the scene.
