
Martin County, FL– A 35-year-old man from Indiantown has been arrested after he allegedly lured several middle school girls into his vehicle with promises of cash and gifts.
Martin County Police reported that the first victim notified them on Thursday stating that she was approached by the suspect while she was walking to school.
The suspect reportedly offered her a ride and the child says she got into the vehicle, once the child was in the vehicle, the suspect offered to buy her a new iPhone and other expensive electronic equipment if she would just stay with him and talk.
The child got nervous and exited the vehicle.
During the investigation, authorities learned that three other victims were also approached and got into the vehicle but were afraid to report the incident.
The suspect has since been identified as Marcos Rodas-Marcos of Guatemala. Authorities reported that he is in the United States on a work visa.
Rodas-Marcos is currently being held at the Martin County Jail charged with Interference of Child Custody, a felony, which falls within the kidnapping and false imprisonment statute.
Officials believe there may have been more victims who encountered Rodas-Marcos but are afraid to report the incident.
“We are urging parents in Indiantown to speak to your children and ask if they have had any encounters with Marcos Rodas-Marcos. You do not need to fear coming forward. Your identity and your privacy will be protected.”
