Late season storm takes aim at Central America

(MIAMI, FL)– Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center are tracking a late season tropical storm just south of Jamaica.

Lisa is the 12th named storm of the 2022 hurricane season.

Tropical storm watches are now in effect for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and on its current track the system would impact the Central American county of Belize late Wednesday or early Thursday.

As of Monday, the center of the system was located at 15.6 N, 76.7 W, moving west at 12 MPH.

Maximum sustained winds are currently 40 MPH.

The system does not pose a threat to Florida or any interests in the United States.

Hurricane Seasons runs until November 30th with the peak taking place in August and September.

Since 1851 there have been 47 November hurricanes with 5 making U.S. landfall according to Accuweather.
