(DAYTONA BEACH, Florida)– A large oak tree collapsed into a Daytona Beach home Tuesday morning, practically costing an 89-year-old woman her life, according to fire officials.
The resident of the home, Katie Speed, was going about her morning routine when the tree destroyed her roof.
Speed was trapped in her bedroom by the falling debris and received minor injuries.
After the rescue crews freed Speed from her room, she was rushed to AdventHealth in Daytona Beach for evaluation.
“Her left leg is bruised and swollen and she’s still shook up,” said Speed’s sister, Willie Harvey.
Daytona Beach Fire Department has declared the home uninhabitable.
