Lake Worth Beach resident Alexander Jerich pleaded guilty in a Palm Beach County courtroom on Tuesday to defacing a LGBTQ mural painted in a Delray Beach intersection last year.

The 20 year old pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief and reckless driving.

Video of the June, 2021 incident, which showed a white pickup truck flying a Trump flag performing a burnout on the rainbow colored mural at NE 1st St. and 2nd Ave., circulated on social media and later led to Jerich’s arrest.

State prosecutors initially wanted to charge Jerich with a hate crime but later said the case did not meet the legal requirement as it involved a city owned property and not an individual.

He will be sentenced in May and could face up to 5 years behind bars.
