Kroger has announced that it will be rewarding associates who decide to get both portions of the approved COVID-19 vaccine when they are eligible to do so.
The grocery store chain made the announcement via an email to associates stating that each associate who shows proof that they received the vaccine will get a one time payment of $100:
“We know that the most effective defense against this pandemic comes in the form of the COVID-19 vaccine and the continuation of the rigorous safety precautions we’ve established across our stores, manufacturing facilities and supply chain,” said Dr. Marc Watkins, Kroger’s chief medical officer in the statement. “We are strongly encouraging all customers and associates to receive the vaccine to curb the spread of COVID-19, and we’ll do all we can to ensure they have access as soon as it’s available,” the chain wrote in the statement.
Those who are unable to take the vaccine due to health or religious reasons are still eligible for the one time payment as long as they take an educational health and safety course.
In addition to the $100 cash incentive, Kroger also says it plans to spend $50 million on $100 store credit and 1,000 fuel points to thank its hourly front line grocery, supply chain, manufacturing, pharmacy and call center associates.
