Vice President Kamala Harris will be going to the U.S.-Mexico border at El Paso, Texas this Friday following criticism from opposition leaders for having not yet done so.
Harris was appointed by Joe Biden to address the ‘root causes’ of the crisis at the southern border following the influx of thousands of migrants from Central and South America.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is set to join her on the trip.
Last month Harris met with leaders from Guatemala and Mexico to push Biden’s plan to provide financial aid to Latin American nations in an effort to provide better conditions for people who might otherwise attempt to migrate illegally to the U.S.
This will be Harris’ first trip to the border since being tasked with tackling the border crisis by President Biden three months ago.
