This Sunday is Juneteenth, a federal holiday memorializing the emancipation of the Black community, following centuries of slavery.

In Fort Pierce, organizers held celebrations on Saturday in Martin Luther King Jr. Dreamland Park for the second annual Juneteenth Freedom Fest, WPTV reports.

Local-owned businesses, performers, and community members fully funded the event.

This year saw double the attendance of last year’s Juneteenth and the organizers are optimistic about next year’s turnout.
