Iran has started its retaliation “Operation Revenge” for Soleimani’s death by striking two bases in Iraq housing US troops, with what it seems to be dubbing “Operation Qassem Soleimani.”
In a departure from their usual practice, the IRGC are claiming the attack, whose stated objective is to drive US out of the region.
The following statement is attributed to @ChiefPentSpox: At approximately 1730 EST on Jan. 7, Iran launched at least a dozen ballistic missiles against U.S. military & coalition forces in Iraq.

Iran has launched up to a dozen ballistic missiles at the base housing American troops in a Iraq.
So far no reports of any US servicemen injured or killed. There are unconfirmed reports of Iraqi casualties.

A White House spokesperson said: “The President has been briefed and is monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team.” He will address the nation later this morning.
The attack was launched at the same time of day that the general was killed by a drone missile five days ago outside the Baghdad airport.
