Officials in New Jersey are currently investigating after human remains were found inside of a large plastic container.

The remains were located around 10:30 a.m. Friday in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey after authorities were called to the area to investigate the container that was left on the side of the street.

Residents told reporters that generally the trash gets picked up on Fridays so the barrel did not initially seem out of place.

It is unclear what alerted residents and authorities to the container.

A spokesperson for the Bergen County Prosecutor office declined to comment on the incident.
