An armed suspect is dead after the homeowner of the house he broke into opened fire.
The incident occurred just after midnight on April 23rd.
Canton police officers say when they arrived at the home, they found 51-year-old Erik J. Hicks suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to an area hospital where he died of his injuries.
The homeowner told police that once he noticed Hicks armed and inside his home, he went for his own gun and opened fire.
After an investigation, authorities determined that Hicks did force his way into the home while armed and confronted the homeowner.
As of Sunday, the homeowner is not facing any charges but the case will be referred to a Van Zandt County grand jury for review.
