Authorities in Philadelphia are reporting that a homeowner was able to flip the script on two intruders who impersonated police officers in an attempt to rob him.
The incident occurred at a home in the 7200th block of Battersby Street in the Mayfair neighborhood on Saturday.
Authorities say the 25-year-old man told police that the two suspects approached him outside the duplex and claimed to be police officers.
The men then forced their way into the victim’s home and zip-tied him.

“They tied his hands with zip ties around his back and threatened to kill him if he made any sudden moves. That’s when our victim realized these individuals were not police officers,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters.
The victim managed to free one of his hands and reached for a gun in his pocket.
The victim fired his gun in the direction of the intruders and struck one of them three times, while the other suspect fled the scene.

Authorities transported the suspect that was shot by the victim, to an area hospital, where he later died.
According to the report, the suspect was still wearing a fake police badge around his neck when he was taken to the hospital.
Officials are currently searching for the other suspect.
