A homeless man is now behind bars after authorities say he propositioned a 12-year-old for sex and then sexually assaulted her when she refused.

The incident occurred on Thursday in Miami-Dade County.

Authorities say the child was taking the garbage to the dumpster when the suspect, Thomas Newsome, approached her. The child told police that Newsome approached her with his dog and then offered her $20 for sex. When the child refused, Newsome reportedly followed her and then fondled her breast before fleeing the area.

The child says she saw Newsome in the area a few days later and told her grandmother, who then call police.

Authorities were able to track Newsome down in Doral Saturday and arrested him.

He has since been booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child and lewd and lascivious contact on a child.
