Hit-and-run driver who killed two university students, shot while running through resident’s yard

Miami Gardens, FL– A suspect accused of fleeing the scene of a car accident that killed two Florida Memorial University students was shot by a resident while running through a yard.
The incident occurred Sunday night in the 16300 block of Northwest 42nd Avenue.
Police say 35-year-old Jerome Harrell was behind the wheel of a car when he struck the two female students who were walking in the roadway.
Harrell then ran through several yards until he was shot by one of the residents.
Harrell was taken to an area hospital where he is still being treated.
Once he is released, Harrell will be charged with two charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
Authorities have not identified the resident who shot Harrell or said whether or not they would face charges.
The family members of the college students identified them as Asiayanna Green and Shar’raiyah Story.
Both were freshmen.
