High school cheer captain fatally stabbed during school parade

A 16-year-old cheer captain is dead after she was fatally stabbed during a parade.

The incident occurred on Gramatan Avenue in Mount Vernon, New York around 3:55 p.m. on Friday.

Authorities say the teen was participating in a parade to celebrate the state championship of the Mount Vernon High School’s basketball team when the incident happened.

The teen, identified as 16-year-old Kayla Green was said to have died while on her way to the hospital.

One other teen was also injured during the incident and sustained minor injuries.

A 15-year-old who’s name was not released in the report, has been arrested and is facing three felony charges of manslaughter, attempted assault, and assault.

She is scheduled to appear before the Westchester County youth judge on April 11.
