Officials are reporting that several victims of the Surfside condo collapse have been targeted by a hacking.

According to the report, hackers attempted to steal the identities of several deceased victims from the collapse.

“(They) violated the rights of an individual, but worse than that, a deceased individual and a family that is grieving,” Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett told WPLG in Miami.

While authorities did bring the attack to the public’s attention, they declined to go into further detail believing it would not be helpful to the situation.

Authorities are now investigating the hack and hope to make arrests soon.

While the investigation continues, officials advise loved ones of those affected by the Surfside collapse to check the credit reports of their loved one to make sure they were not targeted.
