
GREENACRES, FL– A 21-year-old man who was shot by police in a Publix parking lot earlier this week has died.
Jose Villanueva was shot and killed by police on Wednesday after he began waving a gun in their direction.
According to the report, a witness contacted the Sheriff’s department around 6:00 p.m. after noticing the suspect acting suspiciously in the parking lot off of S. Military Trail and Melaleuca Lane.
When authorities arrived in the area, Villanueva fired several shots in the air.
Officials surrounded Villanueva and attempted to negotiate with him but instead, Villanueva began waving the gun around.
Fearing for the public’s safety a deputy opened fire on the 21-year-old.
The suspect was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he died Wednesday.
The deputy who pulled the trigger has been placed on paid administrative leave.
According to reports, Villanueva had been baker acted in the past.
