Gov. Ron DeSantis visited Renaissance Charter School in Wellington on Monday and announced he’s raising teacher minimum salaries in Florida to over $40,000 a year.
He will use $800 million in this legislative budget to cover the increase the average teacher minimum salary.
The governor made the announcement with the state Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran and teachers at his side.
“This is something that will go a long way to not only support minimum salaries across the state, but to support minimum salaries for veteran teachers,” said DeSantis.
“The key to better teachers is better pay,” according to DeSantis.
DeSantis added that in the past three years, his administration has boosted teacher compensation by $2 billion and he plans to increase teacher salaries even more in the coming years.
