(JUPITER, FLA) — Jupiter residents beware a black bear has been spotted roaming around your community, according to Florida wildlife officials.

Jupiter resident Doug Covin spotted the bear while doing yard work over the weekend.

After discovering the bear in one of his nearby trees, Covin contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Jupiter police.

According to the FWC, bears are more active this time of year and it’s believed this is a young bear cub who has struck out on his own for the first time leaving mom.

The juvenile bear has not been apprehended, however, the FWC has set up a trap to lure it to a less populated area.

The FWC also warns residents that, if they spot a bear, do not feed it and do not approach it, and to call the FWC hotline 888-404-FWCC (3922).
