(WEST PALM BEACH, FLA) — A freight train crashed into a vehicle Wednesday evening near downtown West Palm Beach, leaving a ‘woman in her 60s’ critically injured, according to authorities.

West Palm Beach police said the driver, 67, was extricated from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital in “very critical condition” where she later died.

The accident occurred at a railroad crossing in the 500 block of Fern Street, just before 5:30 p.m. Multiple ambulances and fire rescue equipment arrived on the scene and the area was closed off.

Witnesses told WPTV that the freight train ‘plowed into a car.’

This is a developing story.
