Former ’19 Kids and Counting’ star Josh Duggar, has been taken into custody after a federal jury convicted him on charges of downloading and possessing child pornography.
Authorities began investigating Duggar in 2006 after receiving a tip from a family friend, who told police that Duggar confessed to abusing his sisters and a babysitter.
Despite the tip, authorities were unable to prosecute Duggar due to a statue of limitations on the case.
He then, however, publicly confessed to unspecified behavior and resigned as a lobbyist for the Family Research Council. He also apologized for cheating on his wife and confessed to having a pornography addiction.
Years later, federal authorities became involved after a detective from Little Rock found evidence that child porn had been shared by a computer at a car dealership Duggar own. Investigators say they found images depicting the sexual abuse of children, including toddlers on the computer and reported that the images were loaded in 2019.
Attorney’s for Duggar argued that someone else may have uploaded the files to his computer but the attorney could not convince the jury.
The judge also allowed the jury to hear details of case where Duggar confessed to molesting four young girls.
Duggar was convicted on Thursday of on one count each of receiving and possessing child pornography.
Sentencing is said to begin in about four months.
He faces up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count when he’s sentenced.
