BOCA RATON, FL– A 34-year-old former personal injury attorney is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a victim who was found unresponsive in the parking garage of a multi-business building over the weekend.
Brandon Labiner was taken into custody on Saturday following an hours-long standoff at his office building after authorities discovered the body at another location.
Authorities say they responded to a report of gunfire at 5499 North Federal Highway around 4:30 p.m. to find the victim dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Surveillance video from inside the garage showed a suspect arriving on a bike carrying a box in his hands. The suspect then removed a gun from the box and paced around the garage for nearly an hour.
The man then hid near a wall on the north side of the garage as another man entered the garage.
A fight broke out between the suspect and the victim before the suspect is seen on surveillance with his arm outstretched in the direction of the victim. The suspect then ran out of view of the camera.
While investigating the death, officials were then notified about a man who barricaded himself inside another business just three miles away.
The subject barricaded in the building was then identified as Brandon Labiner. Authorities were able to make contact with Labiner and his attorney and convinced Labiner to turn himself in.
While canvasing the building, authorities found a gun cleaning kit, a piece of paper with Labiner’s attorney’s name on it, a bicycle, two cell phones, a Dell laptop, and DNA evidence related to the murder case.
Investigators then checked Labiner’s vehicle and found a 9mm firearm, multiple boxes of ammunition, and more DNA evidence related to the murder case.
Labiner faced a judge on Monday and was charged with first-degree murder.
Authorities are still investigating the nature of the relationship between Labiner and the victim.
